FAQ

  • We are a group of individuals who want to continue hosting a Deck of the Year event. We are the same team that organized the Portfolio 52 DOTY last year (2023). In order to run this event effectively, and in the absence of Portfolio 52’s owner Alex, we have taken it upon ourselves to detach from Portfolio 52.

  • Nothing! No one put us in charge of this, we just decided we wanted to do it for the community. We do not claim to be experts in any field, we are simply a group of passionate card nerds who wanted to keep the spirit alive.

All resources are self-funded by the Academy, and all prizes are donated by sponsors. All time and resources are donated. It is free to participate.

  • We wish we could put up more names for nominations, but for the sake of logistics and time we have to cap the number of nominations for category to 10. If you don’t see your favorite deck, it means it did not meet the proper criteria to be considered and did not pass the Academy’s review process that includes submitted considerations.

  • Of course! We want to build something sustainable and that can be meaningful to a wide audience, which means we could always use a lot of help, new perspectives and advocates!

Whether you want to donate your time, money, or ideas, we want to hear from you! As we grow the event, we will be exploring plenty of fun ways to showcase decks, producers, designers, performers, creators, and collectors — so please reach out to academy@dotyawards.org or find one of the organizers on their Instagram.

  • Absolutely! If you would like to contribute an artist award or a community giveaway prize, please reach out to academy@dotyawards.org

  • When the nominations are announced, you will come right back here to the website to cast your vote.

  • We have made our master deck list available for your viewing pleasure, though it is just a text list designed to jog your memory, you will need to seek out images via Instagram, Kickstarter, retailers, and Internet forums.

We are working on building out resources as we think of them.
